Burn Manufacturing Stove Design
Developing efficient charcoal cookstoves for sub saharan Africa.
More than half the world's population cooks over open fires. Smoke from these traditional cookstoves kills more than 4 million people, mostly women and children, every year. Not only do these open fires produce terrible health affects but they also contribute to rapid deforestation.
As a mechanical design engineer for Burn Manufacturing, I led two high priority research and development cookstove projects. I managed multi-person teams, a strict budget and project schedule for stove production in Nairobi, Kenya. I designed stove models using SolidWorks software and prototyped 20+ iterations using sheet metal forming processes for market research and testing.
